Background:

Our Youth Personality Peek of the week, Michael Mosha, is a passionate pharmacist and public health expert from Tanzania, currently serving as the Head of Operations at the Roll Back Antimicrobial Resistance (RBA) Initiative. With over five years of experience in AMR projects, Michael has played a pivotal role in tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through capacity development and stakeholder engagement on both local and international levels.

Michael’s expertise spans his work as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and Project Lead, focusing on AMR interventions across diverse sectors. As a strong advocate for AMR awareness, Michael is the Head of AMR and NCDs at the African Youth AMR Alliance Task Force, and also a key member of  the Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO & WOAH) Youth Working Group on AMR, and the International Society to Improve the Use of Medicines (ISIUM). His vision is to mitigate the impact of AMR by driving collective action within a One Health framework that considers human, animal, and environmental health.

Ongoing Activities:

Currently, Michael is leading several initiatives under the RBA Initiative aimed at addressing AMR in multiple settings. His work includes:

  • RBA AMR School Clubs: Educating primary and secondary school students on the dangers of AMR, empowering the next generation to be champions of responsible antimicrobial use.
  • Journalist Collaborations: Partnering with media professionals to raise awareness on AMR through impactful storytelling.
  • Public Transport Engagement: Utilising public transport networks to train drivers on AMR prevention, ensuring messages reach rural and urban communities alike.
  • Bridging Program for Healthcare Interns: Conducting hands-on training on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) for young healthcare professionals, strengthening the healthcare workforce’s capacity to combat AMR.

Through these projects, Michael is making significant strides in promoting awareness, education, and responsible antimicrobial practices, contributing to the global fight against AMR. His efforts are not only improving health systems but also fostering a culture of stewardship and collaboration across Africa.
