Biography

Daniel Waruingi is a pharmacist and an innovative public health professional with over 5 years of experience in the field of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

He currently serves as Capacity Development and Youth Engagement Manager at ReAct Africa where he supports the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs at the facility level, plays a pivotal role in capacity development as well as youth engagement initiatives across the African continent.

His work focuses on designing, implementing, and evaluating capacity development programs, developing training materials, and crafting advocacy strategies. His efforts are not only aimed at empowering youth but also at engaging communities to foster a culture of responsible antimicrobial use. Additionally, Daniel is the Co-founder of Students Against Superbugs Africa, an initiative that empowers students and young people from Africa and around the world to become active champions in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance.

Daniel’s dedication to the AMR cause has led him to spearhead projects across 11 African countries, creating a significant movement toward AMR awareness and action. His expertise has been sought after in various advisory capacities, and he has been a speaker at over 60 webinars, workshops, and scientific conferences. His work has been recognized with multiple grants and awards, reflecting his commitment to advancing health systems and prioritizing AMR in Africa.

Ongoing Activities

Currently, Daniel is deeply involved in several projects aimed at mitigating AMR. Under his leadership, ReAct Africa is expanding its reach in youth and children engagement across the continent. The goal is to build sustainable frameworks that empower young professionals and citizens to actively participate in AMR mitigation efforts.

Daniel also supports governments at both national and sub-national levels in implementing their action plans. At the grassroots level, his work includes community engagement and the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship activities, such as the Antibiotic Stewardship Programme through Innovation, Research, and Education (ASPIRE) project.

Through these initiatives, Daniel Waruingi continues to make a substantial impact on the fight against AMR in Africa, driving progress and fostering a new generation of leaders committed to this crucial cause.
